Bio The Cosmic Carnival www.thecosmiccarnival.com

The Cosmic Carnival is a Dutch folk-rock band formed in late 2007. Their mission: “to bring good old, well-crafted songs back to popular music”. In their early days, members of the band spend a lot of time listening to the colorful music of the sixties - the breeding ground for well-written pop songs. The charts of the late sixties were dominated by a huge variety of styles. Almost every song seemed to come straight from the heart and the songs were well arranged. The analog equipment seemed to give this certain warmth and permeates every record, and best of all: there used to be this abundance of vocal harmonies.

In 2009, fueled by the audience's positive reactions, The Cosmic Carnival entered Holland's largest and most prestigeous band competition: the Grand Prize of The Netherlands. They managed to win both the jury vote and the audience vote, by a great margin. The prize money was immediately invested in setting up a a touring facilities such as a touring van, as well as the recording of an EP which was extremely well received by the press. Quoting Dutch pop critic Robin van Deutekom: "The cheerful, harmonious and original sound of the band creates tingling summer atmospheres and dreamy vistas, resulting in beautiful and groovy songs that nicely combine old and new influences." And another quite: “Paul McCartney wouldn’t have mind including these songs in his repertoire”.

Having caught the audience's attention, The Cosmic Carnival decides to show its face wherever possible. On their own merit, they are booked at over seventy venues in 2010. Included in the tour are performances at legendary clubs like famous Paradiso and Melkweg in Amsterdam. Also included is a Live in Your Living Room Tour: a string of intimate living room concerts throughout the country. In these intimate, acoustic settings The Cosmic Carnival proved to be at their best. With 21 shows they became the most frequently booked band of the Popronde — Holland's largest travelling music festival. The band even started to make international appearances as well: a steaming show at the Tremplin Festival in Casablanca, Morrocco, which turned out to be a huge success. This year 2011 an elborate theatre tour was made. And they started to record a brand new full-length album which is due to be released just before they depart for the Live in Your Living Room NYC Festival.
